Where to Stay in Polignano a Mare

on the cliff, or just outside it

Where to stay in Polignano a Mare — in the clifftop old town for the views, or nearby in Monopoli and the Itria Valley for calm. A few rooms we'd send a friend to.

The white old town of Polignano a Mare above the Adriatic

Polignano's old town is tiny and gets very busy by day, so where you stay is a trade-off. A room on the cliff puts you in the postcard — and lets you have it at dawn and after dusk when the trippers have gone. Staying nearby (Monopoli, or inland in the Itria Valley) trades the clifftop drama for calm and value, with an easy hop into town at the quiet hours.

Book well ahead for summer and aim for May–June or September. A few places, from a cliffside icon to a quieter resort outside town, are below.

Questions, Answered

Should you stay in Polignano a Mare or nearby?

Staying in the clifftop old town gives you the postcard and the quiet early and late hours, but it's small, busy, and pricey. Many travelers prefer nearby Monopoli (a larger, more lived-in port town) or the inland Itria Valley (Ostuni, Alberobello), which are calmer and better value, with an easy drive into Polignano at the quieter hours.

Is Polignano a Mare expensive?

Polignano's clifftop and old-town hotels are among Puglia's priciest, especially in July and August. Rates drop in the shoulder season (May–June, September), and basing in Monopoli or the Itria Valley is more affordable while keeping Polignano a short drive away.
