Where to Stay in the Cinque Terre
pick a village, stay the night
Where to stay in the Cinque Terre — choose one of the five villages and sleep there, so you have it at dawn and dusk when the day-trippers are gone. A few rooms across the villages.

The single best decision in the Cinque Terre is to sleep in one of the five villages rather than day-trip in. Monterosso has the only real beach and the most rooms; Vernazza is the prettiest and most coveted; Manarola is the sunset postcard; Corniglia (up high) and Riomaggiore are quieter still.
Rooms are small and book out months ahead for summer — reserve early and aim for May–June or September. Below are a few across the villages; you'll move between them by train, ferry, and trail.

Questions, Answered
Which Cinque Terre village is best to stay in?
Monterosso suits beach lovers and families (the only real beach, most rooms); Vernazza is the prettiest and most atmospheric but books out fast; Manarola is the sunset favourite; Corniglia and Riomaggiore are quieter. Sleep in any of them and you'll get the villages at their best, early and late.
Should you stay in the Cinque Terre or day-trip from La Spezia?
Stay overnight in one of the villages if you can — the day-trippers and cruise crowds arrive late morning and leave by evening, so dawn and dusk belong to those who sleep there. La Spezia is a cheaper, larger base with easy train access, but you'll miss the quiet hours.
